Loving God’s Word, and Law Psalm 119

A few mornings ago during our staff devotion time one of our worship ministers Devan had us read through Psalm 119. His message of the morning was about letting God’s word speak to us, and being refreshed in His word. To be honest that has been one of my biggest struggles a Christian even now. Growing up I had a vision disability that affected my ability to read, in fifth grade I was at a first grade readying level. But after years of work in various Vision therapy sessions, and continuous practice I was able to get close to grade level. All that being said reading was still something that I did not enjoy, so diving into scripture was hard for me to get motivated about, Let alone be refreshed by, today I have learned to find a bit more joy in reading especially when it comes to scripture, but nonetheless it is still a struggle at times. As Devan began to read through Psalm 119 aloud I highlighted a few small things here and there, but what began to just out at me was David’s love for Gods law.

(7 I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws.)

(14 I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.)

(47 for I delight in your commands because I love them.)

(113 I hate double-minded men, but I love your law.)

This amazed me, it seems that most people look at rules and laws as negative things, when really when it comes to God there is nothing more perfect pure and good then his commands. Could you imagine if every believer could live his or her lives being constantly thought of how good God’s law is, and being refreshed by it? God set out the way we should think, act, and live, not to be the almighty police department in the sky, but to show us that there is a better life then the world says it can give us. What would your life look like it you loved God’s commands, and Laws the way David did? I’m not saying you will be with out fault David demonstrated falling short of the glory of God, just as good as the next if not better then your average Joe; but I think if we all learned to love Gods Laws, commands, His call for our lives, and yes His word, we would see a new side Him and I think we could all be refreshed by that.
